G'Day All,
Paul was really hoping to get some footage of his crash (doctors couldn't believe he did so much damage riding a push-bike). If you have any footage please send it to me Via e-mail (dh@perthmtb.com) so I hope you have it on the PC and are able to convert it to M-peg 4 or something.
Here is the latest update from Paul's condition: he spent 3hrs in Bridgetown; then 10 days in Bunbury; and finally 6 days at Shenton Park in Perth. He was just released today (12/05/08) his injuries are 3 broken bones in his right hand; torn ligaments in his left shoulder; 3 fractures in the cup of his pelvis (one was 30mm long); he tore 3 piecesof bone off his spine; and he also cracked his spine.
Thank you for any help in getting videos to Paul.
Cheers,
Clubber.
Four X racing kicked off with a bang this year at the all new Pingelly track, with a good mix of seasoned riders and new blood. The majority of riders took advantage of the opportunity to practice the track on Saturday afternoon to pick the best lines and nut out the tougher sections.
After a chilly night camping out riders where eager to get some more runs in before racing kicked off. There was a thumping soundtrack to keep everyone amped up and a Shuttle run vehicle straight out of mad max to keep the bikes flowing up the hill.
Everyone was ripping the track in practice on a course that had first timers grinning from ear to ear and the experienced riders challenging themselves to the limit, some past it as a few had to bow out before racing started due to some enthusiastic attempts at the final six pack.
DEC together with the Munda Biddi Foundation are conducting a maintenance day at the Marrinup trail near Dwellingup on Saturday 24th May. The work is required to fix up the trail after the big fires last year and will involve general trail maintenance as well as the rebuilding of some trail features. I know this is the day before the club race at the goat farm but this is an important opportunity for us to show DEC our willingness to volunteer our time in maintaining our existing trails.

Ok Read carefully.
The Downhill calendar has changed due to the Geraldton crew not being able to hold their race. With this in mind Perth and Peel Clubs have got together to provide the following changes:
There will be NO Peel club race this weekend.
The state round that Peel was going to hold on the 18th May will now only be a Peel Club round.
The Peel state round will now be held on the June Long weekend which is 31st May and 1st June.
This means there will be one less State Round this year. Unfortuantely this is hard to avoid. For those of you jsut interested in racing it means that there is only one less race but if you do all the Peel and Perth club rounds there is still heaps of chances to ride.
This decision was made by discussions between Corey House from Peel and myself and the downhill committee at Perth.
Hi all, I will be conducting another working bee at Turner hill on Sunday the 4th May. Kick off will be about 9.30am at the gazebo. I have been given the go ahead to build another 2 sections of new trail, as well as some maintenance and rehabilation work. All going well and depending on numbers we should be riding in the afternoon and enjoying the new trail.
If you are interested can you let me know so I have an idea of numbers and I can let you know what to bring. email me at trackman1@aapt.net.au
The work we are doing at Turner hill is part of our commitment as mountain bikers to show we are dedicated to maintaining and improving the trail network we already have to ensure it remains sustainable for years to come. As a result of your commitment it will lead to greater trail access in the future and thats ALL GOOD!

I have been asked to appear on Access 31 tomorrow morning (Thursday) on Wake Up WA. The show is on between 7am and 8am and I think I am on at about 720. I will be talking about mountain biking in general and it may be the first of a series of interviews if they are happy with how it goes.
Feel free to tune in and have a laugh.
The ALCOA 12hr in November is one of the biggest events on the calendar and a very important part of the clubs calendar financially.
We need someone to help us organise sponsors and begin getting things ready for the race now so that this year can continue the success of years past.
If you are interested in helping to stage the event including organising sponsors and promotional material then please email me at info@perthmtb.com
We really need to get a volunteer on board soon. If we are unable to get a volunter in to do this job we may have to get an event organiser and this will cost the club extra money and probably see a large rise in the price of the event.

This ANZAC Day weekend will be the biggest weekend of racing outside the state champs this year. We have the first rounds of both the cross country and the downhill occuring in the south west. First up is the Cross Country on Saturday at the best track in WA. It is being held in Northcliffe at the Boorara Trail. Racing Saturday gives everybody the chance to drive down on Friday, race Saturday enjoy dinner Saturday night at the pub and then either go for a social ride on Sunday (moe details to follow) or head up to Nannup to watch the first round of the Downhill.
The Downhill is now being raced on Sunday to allow more people the chance to come down after work on Saturday and to allow more time to practice. Once again this is the best and longest downhill track in WA. It is always a great race and a fun time.

O’Grady tackles the Hell of the North
LIVE ON SBS
In 2007, the country celebrated when local cycling hero and Olympic and Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Stuart O’Grady, became the first Australian to win the ‘Queen of the Classics’, the Paris-Roubaix.
The tenacious South Australian raced for over six hours on punishing cobblestones and rough terrain, fought off assaults from fellow cyclists, dealt with high temperatures, a puncture and crash, before securing his historic win.
“To race on centuries-old, narrow cobblestone roads, which date back tothe Napoleonic era, is a challenge in itself but to finish and be declared the winner is an honour never forgotten,” said SBS presenter and cycling expert, Michael Tomalaris.
