mtb/4x gates

A group of riders at our local bmx club (byford) are also keen MTBers and race the odd 4x event.
We have put it to bmxwa to start a MTB class at our club and have verbal approval to do so, subject to our commitee setting some guidelines for it.
Having got the ball rolling on that front - the club is hosting the State titles for the bmx series this year, and it appears our electronic gate starter box may not give the required start sequence as per the UCI rules.
Soo - if we can wegde it with our club - we may be able to swing a new starter box with the reqd start - and hopefully- random gate drops!
Regular Friday night gates - Its a good possibilty.
All we need to know is if there is anybody interested in a mtb/4x class/ or gates - it will give us an idea of interested people so we can push to get the above starter box.
Let me know with a response to this post -or email jpatkins@bigpond.com
Cheers
Jarvo

Best time to ask the

Best time to ask the question is at the dh races. get someone on the pa to ask the question for you. That way you get to ask the most likely group of people. It sounds like a great idea to me but I won't be racing.

Yep I'd be in for that. I

Yep I'd be in for that.

I need some practise on the track for the states.

Does it really matter if the

Does it really matter if the gate isn't a random drop gate or comply to UCI rules? I'm in the process of putting together a small 4X series and I'm not going to use a random drop gate. The gate they used at the worlds 4X last year wasn't random drop, it counted down like a bmx one. If you ask most riders 4X riders they all say they prefer this anyway.

I reckon just use the one you've got.

Also dunno if they still do or not but Kalamunda used to run a MTB class once a week. I've filmed Deon, Jack, Hu, Mitch & a few others up there racing. Problem is MTB's are heavier than a bmx & they just don't go that well on a bmx track. We just need more 4X tracks!

I think one of the main

I think one of the main reasons for the random drop gates was bmxers were killing the mtbers out the gate, it's just a technique that bmxers are use to.

If you put together a small 4X series, I'd ride for sure, it's just there is only one track in WA at the moment. But if you found somewere we could build a new one I'd come with my shovel.

Yeah I know why they use the

Yeah I know why they use the random drops gates and at a club level it's probably a good thing to encourage participation.

However 4X racing by nature has a gate start, it's not DH or XC, it's 4X. So if you are going to race 4X your gonna have to start from a gate every time anyway so you are gonna have to learn how to do them sooner or later.

There are other things that can be built into courses to even the equation up, like steeper drops straight out of the gate so gravity gives everyone speed straight away.

About my series, I'll have a big announcement to make in about a week or so, basically it will be a 4X racing series filmed for national TV coverage. I've got two venues 99% confirmed for some 4X & dual slalom races, just gotta dot the I's & cross the T's on a few things and the deal will be done. They have said yes we are just negotiating some finer details.

Both venues are spoofy and one is super spoofy & I can't wait to be able to say where it is, it will go off.

I've been working on a 4X show for about 2 years now so it feels good to be finally getting somewhere!

Thanks for the offer of gettin on the end of a shovel I'll be callin it in, obviously things like this aren't a one man show and while I've got a pretty good crew of people helping me already, I'm a private promotor so I don't have the resources of a club behind me, so when the time comes I'll be putting the call out becasue I'll be needing plenty of help!

Stay tuned....................

This sounds really

This sounds really good.

Would you be able to tell what type of area these venues will be? That will be the only thing that would affect how often I could ride and such.

Unfortunatley at this stage

Unfortunatley at this stage I really can't say where they are.........

All I can say is that one venue will be open to the public but the other won't be.

Myself & a few others are working to get a public 4X track in the metro area and while progress is slow it is happening. It won't happen overnight but it will happen as they say. As you know WA currently doesn't have a public 4X track and the powers that be are atleast now saying that they acknowledge that it needs to happen...........................

new 4x club

i would join coz i have seen the track out ther but i live in mandurah so its a bit far but ill have a fink
