I had a fall at the Goat Farm today, certainly not the first time. The only problem was with the new fence around the driveway and carpark etc. down the bottom. I was pretty cut up and in pain, and just wanted to get to the car back up on the street. Problem was, I couldn't find a way out of the fenced area down around the bottom too easily, near where I had fallen. I think it might be a good idea if there were signs pointing to the exit gap in the fence to help out when something goes wrong, especially something serious as opposed to my incident.

Good Idea
I knew this was gonna become a problem sooner or later. Maybe another idea to add to the PMBC agenda.

Good Idea
We have been talking to DEC about signage for a while and exit signs are good idea. Especially for the reasons mentioned.
This is a great oportunity for you guys to come to the Goat Farm on Sunday Sept 7 to put your point of veiw forward and help with a busy bee we are holding.
Please see the post at the top of the home page.
Thanks, regards, TT
best
not to go riding by yourself dude!!!!!!
Is any of the goat farm
Is any of the goat farm track marked?
If not I would not mind helping to mark the up coming race at the goat farm.
I have been promised by DEC
I have been promised by DEC that as well as the 4x track being built we will also get signage before March 2009. This may seem along way off but it will be great once it is in.
As for th injurys and the fence line. The new fence was a key aspect of being able to get the gate open. The gate will be open soon but DEC just need to fix one small part of the carpark that has a wet patch (I hate wet patches).
I think the comment about not riding alone is a very good one. Any thing can happen on any ride. you may go out with the intentiion of riding easy but it can pretty quickly change when the adrenelin starts pumping. Always ride with someone.
trail signage
Will the trail signage be the same as Pile rd?
You might want to have a look beforehand.
A very carefull look.!
To see if everybody is happy before it goes up.
I don't doubt that riding
I don't doubt that riding alone was a mistake. I wouldn't usually, but I couldn't resist having a quick test of my hour old bike. Lesson definitely learnt. On the matter of the signage though, personally I think letting people know how to get out of the fence is a separate issue to signing the trails. Isn't it a bit odd that DEC would tear down some features at Mt Gungin sighting liability issues (among others of course) yet not let people know how to get out of a fenced area quickly if needed (I think they were right to change Gungin, let's not get into it, and the fence definitely adds to the credibility of the Goat Farm)? I hope I don't sound like a whinger, the more I think about it the less it actually mattered to me the other day, but especially from a legal point of view the amount of effort required to prevent any issues is absolutely nothing compared to the problems it could cause. Sorry guys /rant
signs
I definately dont think your comments are whinging at all, I think they are very valid.
There has been a couple of incidents at pile rd in the last couple of weeks, one in which an ambulance was called out.
Would an ambulance have got in easily to you if needed?
Its good to point out some of these issues, even if it seems a mindless rant to get off your chest at the time.
Even though I recomend against it, I go riding solo at least once a week, I must say they can be the most awsome rides ever. There is just something special about doing an epic solo ride. I do take precutions of telling someone where I roughly go and take a phone.
As for trail signage, Pehaps I did hijack your thread a little, sorry, to point out that pile rd trail post are BRIGHT YELLOW/ORANGE and certainly stand out a LOT. Just a little curious to know what colour they will be at the goat farm.
