It is a great track, has a big log over similar to forsyth mill that you can go around. It has a downhill section cutting across a steep slope with a few jumps in it. It isn't really a big hill but it is a tough course. Certainly worth the trip. Being on private land this is really the only time in the year you can ride it.
Thanks
Cheers mate! That realy hepls and did you say there were any big climbs or is it mainly flat with the od climb?
Barry's Block
Well, a "big climb" can be a bit subjective I guess but there are a couple which will test you for sure, at race pace!
There's also plenty of rock gardens, fast sweepy singletrack, and as the other guy mentioned, speedy off-camber downhill zigzagging across the face of a hill. It's a good, hard, fun track to race.
I just bought a nice hardtail bike to race with, but I reckon I'm going to use my dually for this one :P
Barry's Block
Sorry if I am asking a question already answered on this website, but I couldn't find the answer.
Sounds good and I'd like to ride the State XC #3
Where is Barry's Block?
Approximate travel time from Perth?
Thanks
Where's Barry?
Barrys block is near Lowden.
Lowden is on the Donnybrook - Boyup Brook rd.
I will try and make this as simple as possible as there could be a few ways to get there.
Perth to Bunbury 2 hrs
Bunbury to Donnybrook 1/2 hr
Donnybrook to Lowden 15 min (turn left directly after Donnybrook)
Turn right (south) at Lowden. (should be a mtb race sign)
Approx 3-4 km along the Lowden-Grimwade rd bituman turns to gravel. 5 min
Approx 300 metres 1st gravel drive way on the right. (should be a mtb race sign).
Barry has 100 acres of bush on top of a hill take time to have a look at the veiws.
Careful you dont miss it.
I forgot to mention that Lowden is a, er um just a shop.
Nothing else. just a shop on the corner of a intersection, seeminly out in the middle of nowhere.
Blink and you will miss it.
Where's Barry's house?
Yeh, the location of Barry's Block isn't generally advertised, because it's on private property.
No doubt more precise instructions, including a map, will be posted up when the event is formally announced.
I think Bron's post under
I think Bron's post under the XC News just about sums up the directions and the time of the race. For some more info you can go to http://www.cycletrek.com.au/index.html# this site isn't complte yet but you can call Barry and get more details.
It will be a great race and worth camping down there so you can check out all the trails at Pile Road just 15 minutes away. All signposted trails and no doubt worthwhile spending some time on.
The important thing to remember is that you MUST have a clean bike before entering the property. It is dieback free and they want to keep it that way.
