South West Cape to Cape

For everyones info. I received the details for the Cape to Cape mtb race down south in October. Below is the price for the four days. Due to the high price tag I think I might give it a miss and concentrate on the 12hr, much better value.

Cape to Cape

The rider entry fee of $693 (GST included) gives riders a fully-supported event. It includes full catering (breakfast, lunch and dinner) over the four days, with meals provided at the various Basecamps, as well as local pubs and the spectacular Lake Cave.

The Cape to Cape MTB Basecamp will be set up at the end of each stage and will include an exclusive camping area, recovery area, bicycle wash-down area, social café and alfresco pub, comprehensive medical provision and pharmacy service, information headquarters, tourism bookings helpdesk and an overnight bicycle security compound. Riders will also receive a Cape to Cape MTB essentials back pack, participant riding vest and guided pre-ride familiarisation sessions.

Full details on the entry fee and what is included can be found on the website www.capetocapemtb.com

I'll give it a miss too.

It is a bit expensive. I'd love to support local events like this, but I could fly to Queensland and do The Epic race for about the same money.

cape to cape

Thanks for putting the info & website for the cape to cape event up. Bit of a shame you seem not interested. But that doesn't stop others like my self getting excited about the event. As I'm out of action for a month or more (ankle operation) this will keep me motivated as all championships are stuffed missing these couple months. If the trails are similar to the Karri Cup earlier in the year, it will be a hoot. But only if you prepare well for the event. I have more than a decade of mt bike racing including many 12 hrs and a few 6 hr races behind me, yet I still failed like a few others not to prepare well for this years Karri cup. It took the shine of a great event that I only blame myself for. So If there are others interested in entering this event (not bag it as it seems common for this web site) please share your preparation ideas on this forum. As eg. I went away from the Karri Cup thinking maybe a hard tail with my Rohloff Hub with a single speed type adjustable bottom bracket would be a far more durable set up ( yes I, like many others ripped my derailleur off on the raw trails with hungry sticks & branches waiting like land mines to kill any derailleur that came within its reach and they did). Also 100mm or 120mm forks with lock out. I would suggest too a few training rides to suit the event such as 40, 60 and 80km rides with similar terrain, obstacles and build towards 100kms in the weeks prior to the event. With the amount of riders pulling out after the first stage of the sundays karri cup I think there must be a few who need the preparation as well as myself. As for value, if you spend 5 months preparing and training then as a whole "getting into the event" then it works out 5 mths 6 days for just $693 (GST included) wow what value !!!

I think you are confused about making a comment about a race and it's cost and bagging an event.

Good luck for the event.

This event won't be so much

This event won't be so much of a race from what I've heard. I would suggest that is won't be any where near as hard as the Great Karri Ride and is aimed much more at a touring type of event as you get to race/ride in the morning and enjoy the local area in the afternoon.

As for the price that looks like a pretty cheap price tag if you actually look at what must be involved in moving your basecamp on three or four occasions as well as providing food over four days for three meals a day. Absolute bargain.
