hadley

Hope have a solid rep in the UK - nice hubs. Hadley / Chris King maybe. Dare I even suggest Shimano Saint!?! - the shimanos are actually quite strong, although the loose ball design of the shimano hubs does need a little more love if you're going to be hard on them.

actually - go with the bling, since hubs are the ticket to MTB cool.

Hadley

You could also look at Hadley. Pricey, but supposedly very good. I have just ordered a set and will be building in some XC wheels. They do 20mm hubs as well as DH specific hubs. Colours as well!

hope pro 2

I have the hope pro 2 hubs and am very happy with them. I have yet to do any maintenance, and they are still rolling smooth. Can't say the same for Shimano, with their cup n cone systems. I only ride XC so I haven't really pushed the durability of this hub, but I guess they must be strong as they offer them with 20mm thru axle. The price of these hubs isn't as extreme as the King and Hadlee hubs either.

One thing you have to be aware of is that the Hope rear hub is super loud, which may piss you or your mates off. I quite like the sound, but my mates do say they can hear me coming from quite a long way off.

Another option I would consider are the DTswiss 240s, or the 340s. By all accounts they are fine hubs as well.

dt swiss

i use a DT Swiss 340 on my "everything" bike (29r hardtail), the hub is super sweet. For heavier work you'd want to consider the 440's - which have larger weight-bearing surfaces and a bit more material in them.

DT Swiss do have an exellent return policy - if it's broken we'll make it right. now thats customer service!

bullshit, when i bent the

bullshit, when i bent the internal axle on my dt swiss hugi fr which in turn fucked the racket they said tough luck thats $300, straight to hope pro 2's for me

hubs ?

Personally I ride "DT swiss 440", "DT swiss 370" and "DICE HooDoo" hubs. My opinion is that all are excellent. Considering that they are a chunk of aluminium machined down to take sealed bearings, value for money I would go with "DICE HooDoo" hubs. If I went for bling, "DT Swiss 440".
I would not go for cone style bearings. Sealed bearings yes. The Hubs are at the centre of rotational mass so a few extra grams are not going to make an ounce of difference. To me reliability for free riding means a lot. I have ridden in a lot in wet conditions, so replacing the bearings once a year will lead to trouble free hubs. "DICE HooDoo" 1st choice for me.

I just got my new silver

I just got my new silver Hadleys. Look great, smooth as silk and gonna look rad in my new Rims.

Did I mention they look great?
