Club Dh #1 - Goat Farm

The 2008 DH Season kicks off this Sunday 6th April, with a club round at the Goat Farm.

We will be using last year's State Champs track, and will be expecting a big turn out for the first event of the year. This race last year attracted over 120 riders, which proved to be a handful for rego, as most people were also wanting to renew/sign up for season memberships. As a result we are going to start the race a little later in order to give everyone a chance to get all rego/membership stuff out of the way, and get a decent practice in too. *New number plates for this year must be purchased for $5 at the event, and will be used for every race over the season. For online rego just put any number into the plate number section.

* Also please note that we have started a new volunteer system. We are even offering free entry to kids whose parents can help out on the day. We seem to be the only sport club in the state who do not have a strong parent volunteer base and getting help is like getting blood out of a stone sometimes. We appreciate you want to watch your kids race, but if you don't come forward and help out there won't be any racing!!!. The committe is all made up of racers and we do these positions becaus we don't want to see our sport die out. We seriously need parental support so if you can email dh@perthmtb.com and put your name down it will help things out dramatically.

We have been receiving lots of questions from potential newcomers to the sport about how to register, and how the racing process works. Here is a basic outline for any new people wanting to come and have a go:

- Membership/license: In order to compete you need to have a license which covers your insurance. There are two ways in which you can do this: 1. Be an MTBA/club member, which will cover you for a whole year at any race in Australia, or
2. Buy a day license for $15 which will cover you for one race only
If you are planning to race all season it is much more economical to sign up for the whole year and that way your points for each race will go towards the season overall championships. Both licenses can be obtained at the race in the morning at registration, or print one out and fill it in from the toolbar and bring it with you.

- Race entry fee: You also need to register for each event. This will be done online or by post. You can enter online using a credit card, or print out a form and mail it in with a cheque. All registration information can be found under the "Race Entry - Forms and online" link on the toolbar. The Goat Farm race will have rego on the day, however all future races will be on a pre rego basis, and anyone wanting to register on the day will be charged an additional fee. We are trying to get everyone into the habit of pre registering as it saves the volunteers lots of time on the day to attend to other duties.

*Online rego is up for this event, and we are strongly urging everyone to use this function to try to minimise registration waiting times on the day. All information about which categories are available are under the DH racing Overview link on the toolbar.

So hopefully that answers a lot of questions for people, if you have anymore questions email dh@perthmtb.com and we will answer them as fast as humanly possible.

See you all there.
