A road ride for fixies

A road ride for fixies*
Every single Thursday at 6am I am doing a 50k-ish road ride. I always start from the Bibulmun Northern Terminus at 6 precisely (top of Mundaring Weir Road in Kalamunda). I do 4 routes alternating between 45 and 55k, all hilly, pace averages between 24 to 26 kph so we finish between 7.45 and 8.30 at the latest in Kalamunda - with cake and coffee of course. The quicker the ride the bigger the serve!
If the timing suits just turn up. Lights are required at the moment. The only caveat is once in a blue moon (like last week when my daughter was sick all night) if I don't show up the plan B ride is Kalamunda to Mundaring Return (once round the roundabout in Mundaring).
* You don't actually need to have a fixed gear bike to join this ride, but expect to wait a bit at the bottom of hills as I max out at 50.

Aieee!

Respect to anyone doing that ride on a fixie! Sadly it's the wrong day for me to join the ride. Would you say 43-17 is OK or a bit low for the descents?
Also, how did I miss out on the MASH Premiere? Where does that news get circulated?

43x17 perfect. I go 42x17.

43x17 perfect. I go 42x17. Descents are ok until they are long like Welshpool. I brake a lot.

you idiots

as above

different is not always wrong.

Ride doesn't work with my employment obligations (don't think the boss would understand.)

BUT - I am selling Cannondale CAPO fixie (56cm) if anyone else wants to take part :-)
- Alloy Frame
- Carbon Fork
- Choice of wheelsets (or both if you want - for the right price).

its a mtb club, we all know that. many cyclists ride on the road to get the basic fitness to enjoy mtb and not everyone lives close to areas they can mtb in all the time!

different is not always wrong

i think you're allowed to ride a road bike and a mountain bike too. just stay away from morris dancing and you'll be right.

hmmm

i would hardly call a 50km ride at an ave of 25kmph and hilly basic fitness!Especially after work!

the problem is that there is no perth roadie club forum.

Not riding tomorrow

This is the organise a ride forum. If you ride a single speed mountain bike like I do, the fixed road ride is a good training ride and when the clocks change we alternate weeks with 35k XC rides (Kal-Gungin-Kal heading South via Pickering Brook or North via Jorgenson).
Anyway, another week has passed and tomorrow's ride is cancelled (although some of the other regulars might turn up and do their own ride).
The ride isn't cancelled just because Morris Dancers might turn up, but if they ever do I will have to accidently get their tassles caught in my drivetrain.
No, instead I'm resting, because this weekend I'm doing a 380km 24hr ride (on the fixie, in a team with other fixies, although there are teams of geared bikes too). It starts 9am in Freo on Saturday, goes as far as Harvey and returns to Freo for 9am Sunday. This ride is an annual event organised by the Perth Audax club (audax.org.au) inspired by Hubert Opperman, king of the endurance ride. It will be the furthest and longest I have ever ridden by some margin (the faster teams do as much as 600k in the same time). Yes, I must be an idiot. Then again there is the real biggie coming up in 2010, Perth-Albany-Perth (1200km, time limit 80hrs). How stupid's that?

That sounds really stupid!

I'm pretty keen on doing an Audax ride one day, especially on the fixie. 2010 sounds like an achievable target. I'm sure there was a website with heaps of fixies doing Paris-Brest-Paris or something. Got to have front and rear brakes and heaps of lights!
Have a good ride, sounds like a bloody awesome way of combining touring and fixies and personal-bests.
