Hello peeps.
I am changing my scope - from mountain to road and want to purchase a half decent road bike. Entry level stuff wont hold me. I have destroyed my Scott YZ2 a number of times and just refuse to spend anymore loot on it. It is for sale as is for 100 clams. The frame is outstanding but the rest is blown.
Anyway. Enough crying like a girlie girl. Im looking at about $1000 (all I can get past the wife) for a road weapon. I am 6foot 1 and weigh about 90 - 95 (mostly undercarriage). What does the PMBC community recommend for me?
Scott S50?
Orbea?
or what about the Cell Swift?
HELP PLEASE PEOPLE before I get fat.

Try these guys ....
G'day Trojan,
I can't help you much, but the guys on the following forum are pretty helpful when it comes to this question. Lots of Perth riders there too.

Make sure you mention what you plan to do with your new bike, what level of fitness you have, how serious you want to get etc. The more information you can supply, the better the answers will be.
Cheers,
Graeme
half and half
Half decent road weapon .... and .... only $1000 .... cannot exist in the same sentence. This goes double for Gentlemen with "undercarrige".
Dave (an old man with "undercarrige")
BTW - I'm selling my roadie, RED, goes fast :-), should fit you!
Road bike
You have might have two choices here, try the apollo range. The ventoux road bike because they are more traditional sizing rather than compact frame . The flat road bike series might be the way to go as well, try the website www.apollo bikes .com. See STEVE at IDEAL CYCLES because he sells the range . Try the trek range as well maybe the 1200 range at BIKEFORCE. If you are after prices of the bikes go to the newsagent at ask for THE BICYCLING BUYERS GUIDE AUSTRALIAN EDITION. Good luck
recumbents
Good to see you graeme trying out the other form of riding ,THE RECUMBENTS. I have had both forms of recumbents , trikes and two wheelers.I road with wahpv club a few years back but i dont drink COFFEE. Try this website www.calfee design.com, craig builds the best carbon bikes in the world and has designed a recumbent. go to the left hand corner and click on bike designs and the recumbent stilltlo and check out the recumbent trike. He also has designed a bamboo mountain bike hardtail. cheers
Good work team
Okay,
thanks for the swift and superb help. I would stay MBing but Im able to ride to work now up the freeway from Kwinana to Murdoch and back daily. I did take the MB but it is heavy and even with slicks it takes about an hour.
if you do have a bike (and I know I cant get much for 1000 bucks) (which is shit cause you can get a great MB for that!) that fits my immense structure then let me know. I have a serious history of purchasing lemons (automobiles, bikes, gadgets, holidays etc) so dont lead me astray please, I'll only have a spasm and my wife will get one over me (in the bad sense).
Later
I would suggest looking on
I would suggest looking on the triwa website (www.triwa.org.au I think is the right address). There's always someone on there hoping to get rid of an unwanted xmas present or an impulse buy.
In terms of brands, I would consider a giant with the money you are hoping to spend.
New Orbea Fleche. $1099
New Orbea Fleche. $1099 RRP, the new sora 9sp (very nice stuff), nice finishing kit, shimano hollowtechII style compact crankset and they are currently coming with R550 wheels (~105 level). Easily the best value we've seen in an entry level road bike.
But remember youw ill spend more than $1000 on the associated stuff, whether you plan to or not. Can't ride a road bike properly with baggy shorts.

How about a Cannondale CAPO!
Slightly used but in great condition.
Sure it only has one gear, but you can only use one at a time anyway - right?
Alloy Frame, Carbon fork, ummm single speed. Never have deraileur problems again. Let me know if you're interested. 56cm btw.

Road Weapon?

Road weapons usually have 4 wheels and smell funny.
don't knock on deaths door, ring the bell and run, its more fun.
For $1000 try looking second
For $1000 try looking second hand, Quokka, or I did hear the triathlon site was a good spot to pick up a newly replaced ride. I picked up an OCR full carbon, 105 group set for my partner a few weeks ago and she loves it. Retail was closer to $2500 and this was only a year old.
$1000 is a lot of cash for most of us but new bike won't really get you a quality equiped ride. Maybe Sora equiped at best?
Where do these come from?
This post is at least 6 months old!!
And i seriously think if he was turning to the dark side - he would've gone by now.
Don't ya think?
